Galllery: Kingdom Death - White Knight Heavy Version By Sven

The heavy White Knight is an alternative version of the White Knight which I’ve already painted a while ago. It sports a heavy weapon and wears slightly different armour. Apart from that it is pretty similar to the original, so I’ll keep it short to prevent being repetitive.

Gallery: Chaos Daemons - Nurglings By Chris

January 2016 has been very productive for me so far! It seems that small decisions; like going from mono to multi-god; has been the right move. It has giving me more painting and modelling options than ever, resulting in finished figures. As you can see below, elements of my long forgotten Nurgle collection have started to reappear and fully painted too!

I only made a few adjustments to the Nurgling stands as they were pretty much fine despite a couple of years storage There was the odd damage to fix, but the main task was to finish them completely by re-basing and adding additional features like shrubs, leaves and mushrooms. I think these little changes go a long way to making them stand out more than before.

Monday Previews!

Welcome to another Monday, lets shake off the start of week work blues and have a look at what miniature goodness is floating around the writer's desks. It's looking like a very strong start to 2016 as we actually have lots of fully painted, near fully painted miniatures, ready and lined up for photo shoots!

Chris
After a busy weekend getting some of last years photos up on the blog, I dug out and finally finished off some figures that have been lurking around for a while. With my return to Chaos Daemons, it seemed only right to liberate the Nurgle minions from their crusty storage box and add them to my ever growing collection. it is quite surprising to see just how close to completion these were, before I hit a mental block with the painting.

So over the weekend I finished off fourteen Plaguebearers, three stands of Nurglings and built three Plague Drones. As you see, Skarbrand is back out, waiting to get a covering of liquid green stuff with the Drones. A very productive weekend, that has given me a huge motivation boost this week. Gallery shots of the Plaguebearers and Nurglings will be posted within the next two weeks and next in-line is finish the Exalted Seeker chariot and make a start painting Pink Horrors.

After the arrival of my long awaited Wave 1 shipment of KD:M, I finally got my hands on the last resin miniatures I needed for my full collection. I'm now the proud owner of every 28mm resin miniature officially offered by Kingdom Death (I don't care much for the 54mm and those strange, failed grab bag minis). To celebrate this I began work on a miniature that I loved for ages now and couldn't wait to finally receive. The Lion Knight 2nd. I'm actually pretty far concerning his paint job, but am pondering at the moment what approach to go by concerning the face. So I had a little fun with Photo shop, to have a look at my different ideas.
I'd love to try out the "skin version". Basically showing that the Lion Knight has human origins and was crafted/shaped to look more like a lion, but am not sure it'll look the way I imagine. Any comments on the matter would be appreciated.

A solid looking January so far!

Gallery: Prodos Games Warzone Resurrection - Mishima Tiger Dragons By Chris

Like the Cybertronic Eradicator, these figures were painted for Prodos Games' Salute 2014 Display Stand. The red armour colour scheme was chosen by the client, so I went for a rich glossy effect much like what I used in the past for my Warmachine collection. These are extremely fun miniatures, which blend nicely Japanese classical style with a sci-fi twist and at a very decent price.

Gallery: Prodos Games Warzone Resurrection - Cybertronic Eradicator By Chris

Painted in 2014 for Prodos Games as part of their Salute Trade Display. This Eradicator is an iconic model of the Mutant Chronicles/Warzone range. It is a massive chunk of resin, which proved to be a nice challenge to paint due to the client's color scheme; which involved large white plating. To ensure that the model was not overly plain, I opted to add hand painted battle damage, free hand symbols and a few glow effects, sadly what cannot be seen in the photo, is the free hand green circuitry under the chin of the model. I did have a bit of a mishap though, the blaster glow did not turn out as expected due to my colour selection, despite this, the Eradicator is a great model from a fantastic company and is a must have for any fan of the Mutant Chronicles/Warzone Resurrection Cybertronic fan.

Gallery: The Devil's Run: Route 666 - The Host, Gringo & Oily Jim By Chris

Greetings, today we have a look at a commission piece I completed for Word Forge Game's Devil's Run: Route 666 game, a 20mm post apocalyptic vehicle combat game. The figures are immensely detailed considering that they are 20mm scale and it was a challenge from the start, not just to bring the intricate details out but also to successfully photograph the miniatures once complete. I am hoping to improve my photography skills; or find someone who can do it better!; before sending the next batch of figures back to Word Forge games.

This set of three figures was originally finished at the start of December 2015 and were on display for the first time at Dragonmeet 2015.

Gallery: Kingdom Death - The Butcher By Sven

Actually I can’t believe that I’m finally writing this article now. This special miniature stood on my desk for ages and I kept on postponing the work on it. I can’t even tell you why, as I really like the model, but just as the King’s Man I was never in the right mood for the kind of work it required. Lots of OSL and metals to do. In the end he also took a bit longer to paint than normal, just because I paused several times. But finally here he is:

Monday Previews!

Welcome to another edition of Monday Previews! First up I would like to apologise for the lack of photo content over the weekend, my laptop is having some issues (full hard drive), which has meant I have been unable to process/edit the Gallery shots I have stored up. I do have a new hard drive arriving at the end of the week; courtesy of a friend; so fingers cross, with a little bit of bodging I will be up to speed again.

In the mean time lets see just what is lurking on our hobby benches...

Chris/DiStudios
My Exalted Chariot Of Slaanesh is on it's final journey to completion, but not without so many issues. I had divided the painting into two parts, hoping that basing would be easier, but the mass scythes at the rear of the miniature are so dominant, that I am sure I will get paint all over them as I paint the sand. I am not quite sure how I am going to bypass the same scenario, when I add the final two chariots to the squad...

To help me get past the stress of the basing issues of my chariot, I decided to build and prime a Bloodthirster, I am hoping to make a start on him towards the end of the week, but of course this will depend on how far I get with respective commissions, I also managed to build/clean a unit of ten Pink Horrors and a Herald of Tzeentch. Now I have to say, the Pink Horrors are lovely models, but completely over sized for the standard 25mm base, so I will probably move them to 32mm in the future, because frankly as it stands, having the models constantly fall over or spin around at the slightest bump, is irritating.

After finishing the Frogdog I decided I should go for something human sized again as I'm still waiting for my KD:M Wave 1 to arrive (it's held by customs).

Building resin miniatures always asks for some green stuff work and as I mixed so much putty I just kept building models until I ran out of it. So here I am with 9 models ready to be painted. Unfortunately I'm very busy at work at the moment, so I don't know when I'll start on them, but I think I'll begin with the witches.

So there you have it! new toys all over the place and in various stages of work.

Gallery: Kingdom Death - Lion Knight 1st By Sven

Just as planned after the Mondays preview I managed to finish the Butcher, but as I need to take some more pictures of it and I would like to start the New Year with one of my favourites I present you today: Lion Knight 1st.

Monday Previews!

Greetings, it's the first Monday of 2016 and therefore time to see what we are working on here at Send The Eighth! Blog. Over the holiday period, the writers got a lot of nice goodies, not just as gifts, but also from various Kickstarter projects that owed packages. So without further delay, lets see what new toys are lurking around the writer's work desks...

Chris/DiStudios
Over December, I finally got my AvP: Aliens Vs Predator The Hunt Begins board game! Having waited near two years for the basic product to arrive, I am keen to get those figures painted and showcased in the future. Further more it seems that Prodos will be making a push to have all remaining backer packages, out the warehouse and shipped by the end of February - of course salt with this, as dates provided in the past have slipped...massively.

So to keep me going until then, I have been working on my much enlarged Chaos Daemons project! Originally intended to be a mono-Khorne army, but the sheer variety of figures was too much of a temptation. As a result all four powers will now be represented in my collection. The first models to be worked on in 2016 are Exalted Seeker Chariots Of Slaanesh. These models are extremely an extremely cool addition to the collection with bladed wheels, four mounts and crew. The kit does have a terribly habit of snagging on clothes and can be fiddly at times to build, but luckily for me I have a soft spot for chariots!

Above shows the progress of my first Exalted chariot. As you can see it is nearing the final stages of the build.

Apart from being a great game, Kingdom Death: Monster also sparked my love for their resin sculpts and so I've been working on some of those lately. Currently on my table is the butcher which I hope will be finished today. My Butcher will be following the scheme of my Forsaker Knights as he is basically one of them but gone mad.

The picture is right after I blocked in the true metallic paints. Copper and silver are the best ones to use, as the others seem to get thicker and oily with every use. I'm actually a step further on the model now and washed it, but the result differs greatly from the Forsaker armour, so I might have to go back again. I'll show you my results soon.

So there we have it to kick off the year! I am hoping that we have a strong start to January with fully painted photo shots and games, but of course it is early days yet!
