Greetings everyone, here is probably the last Reader's Showcase of the year and it is a good one. I actually intended to post this one before the Christmas holidays hit, but time just was not on my side. Joys of being the Christmas host means personal things such as the blog and painting must take a back seat, but on the plus side I do have some tasty gaming loot to share with everyone, anyway onwards to the figures! Sven rings out the year with another set of amazing Kingdom Death figures, this time he graces the pages of the 14th Legion blog with the Preacher and Preacher Pin-Up miniatures...
As usual I started with the skin first. I had no special plans for the
Pin Up, but I wanted the Preacher to have a visibly red head, to reflect all the
shouting and preaching he's doing outside of skin tones, the most obviously dominant feature is his robe, so the choice of colour for the robes was always going to be very important. I decided on royal Purple and
Blue to contrast with his golden jewelry. For both colours I used a
dark basic tone, that I mixed with light grey for the highlighting and then
brought it back together with an blue/purple wash.
For the metals I wanted to use the Vallejo "Rich Gold", but I realised the colour was very sticky and that made working on details nearly
impossible, so I moved on to "Old Gold", which had the normal consistency of the
true metals. I must admit, that I did not enjoy painting these figures as much as usual, the Pin Up was extremely fragile with the outstretched hand coming off several times and then eventually a finger breaking off, never to be seen again. Luckily, the
sprue contains a second hand (Thanks, Adam!). However after replacing the missing part I
kept on messing up my the parts I had already finished on the model and even spoiled my
trousers with clear red....I just hope, this can't be seen on the final results.
In the end I was truly happy, when the models were finally finished. (Sounds like you might be suffering a little bit from painting fatigue - DiStudios)
Last but not least, I'd like to thank everyone for reading my articles this year and to wish you a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year! I'll be back in 2014 with one of the most
disturbing and controversial Kingdom Death Miniatures.
Thank you Sven for all your contributions this last couple of months, it has been an absolute pleasure featuring your work on the blog. I am looking forward to seeing what you bring us in 2014!
The Reader's showcase is a series dedicated to the you the reader! If you have a painted piece you really love and want to share with the blog, then please send me an email titled Showcase HERE.
