Warhammer 40,000 2nd Edition ~ Death Guard #2

We are back this week with another Dave Andrews Plague Marine miniature. As with last week, this is from the 1993 release, which I view as a transitional Chaos Space Marine miniature. The 1993 range deviates a little bit from Jes Goodwin's Iconic Death Guard sculpt, but does retain or add some of the more typical details we would associate with later Death Guard/Plague Marine miniatures i.e the wooden panels on the bolt gun (how chic!), groin guard, helmet spike and of course battle damage/weathering. Interestingly though this figure sports a more standard MK7 helmet breathing grill as opposed to breathing pipes or filter caps, perhaps to make greater emphasize that these are 'bad guy' versions of the popular Imperial Space Marines. The 1994 multi part versions would fully move away from the 'bunny teeth' grill to give the range it's own unique identity.

I had a huge amount of fun painting the other member of this set, so decided early on that I wanted to paint a standard, unconverted set. So no conversion this time, I do however have a spare one sitting on the desk with a head and weapons swap which will be finished at some point. Like a lot of miniatures of that time, it is a single piece cast with a separate backpack and I think I did actually use one of my original metal backpacks to finish him.

Warhammer 40,000 2nd Edition ~ Death Guard #1

Greetings and welcome to the start of a new(ish) project. The blog has been neglected for quite some time, due to the simplicity of Social Media posting, but recently I have been really wanting to revisit my little blog. If you have been following me on either Facebook or Instagram, then this project will not be anything new. If however this is your first time seeing the figures, welcome!

I have actually been working my way through multiple 'Oldhammer' projects since lockdown, which include Rogue Trader Imperial Guard, Dark Angels and Dwarves - all of which will be updated here Autumn onwards. It's quite daunting looking back at miniatures and projects that essentially started in excess of 30 years ago but never saw completion. What on earth have I been doing with my time!

Now, will I paint every single figure I have amassed since 1989? Probably not, but for the ones I do end up painting, I will give it my best.

Gallery: Rackham Confrontation ~ Dwarves of Mid-Nor Demon Tower

Its been a tumultuous 5 years, but I am finally in a position to both paint miniatures and share it. Today's offering is a classic miniature from French miniatures game Confrontation by the sadly defunct Rackham Games - although there are whispers of a reboot.

This is the Demon Tower for the Dwarves of Mid-Nor faction, essentially evil dwarves with gribbly monsters. The miniature is entirely made of metal and probably weighs in similar to a 2nd ed Space Marine Dreadnought. A challenging, but rewarding piece, its loaded with details as to be expected from a Rackham piece.
