So today I did something a little random. Keeping in theme with the Chaos Warbands ideal, I decided to roll my Chaos Champion and his retinue. This gives me some nice direction for the collection and stops me going overboard with the buying; because in all honesty buying old Warhammer is not cheap at times. So today I am going to share my just exactly what I rolled on those masses of D100 and D1000 tables...

Realms Of Chaos: Welcome (Back) To The Wastelands By Chris
Greetings and welcome (back) to the Wastelands! regular followers will have noticed that my Twitter feed has been rife with Oldhammer activities. What was meant to be a small addition to an existing project, has very quickly spiraled into a full blown collection. For the uninitiated (or simply not old enough), Realms Of Chaos was one of a pair of iconic books released in the 80's that set the tone for all things Chaos in the world of Warhammer/Age Of Sigmar. Back then miniatures were single pose individual miniatures, which held a huge amount of character. It is this 'character' that the miniatures had, that pretty much set up Games Workshop as the dominant force in the toy solider industry.

Monday Previews!
Greetings everyone! it's Monday, which means time to have a look at what is going on with the writers here at Send The Eighth! As always a eclectic selection of miniatures are flying about...

I have been hit by the nostalgia bat! What started off as a idea, is starting to transform into something altogether bigger. The original concept was to get the odd Beastman miniature from the Realms Of Chaos range to bring a little colour to my fledgling Daemon army. However after having so much fun painting them, I have decided that the army will now become a Daemon World army. For those who don't know, the fundamental difference is that a Daemon World army is a mix of mortals and Daemons from worlds within the Warp, so contain elements of Beastmen, Minotaurs, Daemons and renegade humans!
I have around a dozen very old Beastmen either in the post, undercoated or sitting in paint stripper. It is all extremely nostalgic! From a painting perspective, I am having an absolute blast, since it brings me back to being a kid and more importantly, each and every model is an individual with every sculpt having it's own distinct character to it.
Even if these never see the table, they will probably be the jewels in my new display cabinet!

Following my last preview I went right on and tackled the first
starting miniatures. As I now have most of the models as resin pieces
as well, I aimed for a moody look that's easy to do and doesn't need me to paint
all the figures twice. Due to all the lanterns, the dark setting and the board
art the models just lend themselves to some monochrome light source painting.
Never tried it before, but they are just gaming pieces, so the result fit my
expectations quite well. Have a look:
Already started on more survivors and some monsters, but will have to find a
solution to get faces on the monster bases. Might have to try out moulding for
the first time...

So plenty of cool stuff going on, ranging from nostalgic 80's miniatures to contemporary horror. If you enjoy looking at fully painted miniatures, please visit our respective galleries. Also keep your eyes on our Twitter feed as I have some very cool commission miniatures to share throughout the week!

Gallery: Kingdom Death - White Knight By Sven
The White Knight was a long time enigma of Kingdom Death. It was mentioned
in several instances in the fluff of other models and when it was finally
released it was yet another piece to the puzzle that is the Golden Entity and
its army.

Monday Previews!
Greetings all, it's Monday; which means time to see what the writers here at Send The Eighth! have been working on.

Despite what was a great start, it has unfortunately been a very bad hobby week for me! I made the mistake of following the Games Workshop video on painting the Bloodthirster and the results were less than satisfying. If you are ok with gaming standard dry brushed creatures, then it is a fine method to use, but for me there was a lot lacking, when compared to some of the other figures I have painted this year. So as a result no pictures for me today as the Bloodthirster is now sitting in a pile of power spray...

I guess it's already well-known that Kingdom Death: Monster finally reached
its backers. Last Monday was the happy day for me and when I came home from work
a big and heavy box awaited.
My excitement was huge and from what I can tell my box is complete and
without flaws. The sheer amount of tiny bits on the sprues is fearsome though, and naturally I took some pictures!
The box came with two additional cardboard boxes, one was in the main box,
the other holds the additional Kickstarter bonus pieces:
Of course I couldn't restrain myself from building some stuff right away. Basically I finished all miniatures that don't belong to the highly customisable armour sets, as I'm unsure on what set-up I should build them in. The Phoenix was a special puzzle, as the building instructions are not on line yet, I had to find the right spots for 28 tiny hands on its wings. Somehow it was great fun:
Overall the quality of the plastics is great (especially the Phoenix). The only thing that didn't fully hold up to my expectations was the rulebook. The print is great, but the pages are very thin and the black softcover is very easily damaged. There were also some minor glue streams that kinda soil the artwork on the first page. As unboxings seem to be everywhere on the net, I'll be focusing more on the miniatures for the upcoming articles on KD:M and maybe a gaming report once in a while. Can't wait to get my hands on wave 1 and 3.

So some disasters and some surprises! Hopefully this week will go a little better for me, but in Sven's case; I cannot wait to see what submits in the future!

Product Review: Wrath Of Kings By Sven
As previously shown in a past Mondays Preview, I’ve lately received some nice
boxes from the Wrath of Kings Kickstarter by CMoN. The Kingdom Death nerd in me
couldn’t resist the temptation of a nice cross-over miniature and when I looked
through their stuff, I fell in love with the concept art of the Ancient King and
Orsund Cavalier. Nice thing is that each model fits for one of my collected
ranges.
Let’s begin with the Ancient King. It’s a promo model with absolutely
ridiculous rules and not really supposed to see play. I got it because I loved
the art and thought it’d be a nice Tomb King.

Monday Previews!
Greetings everyone, it's Monday so time to have a little look at what the writers here have been doing recently.

Finally my new project is here! The release of Skarbrand has resulted in a bit of a Khorne revival for me. However rather than going the power armour route; like my old Khorne Berserker army from 2000; I have decided to go with a daemonic horde. Despite the fact it is a mono Khorne collection, the decision to collect was based very much on variety. Having a Chaos Daemon army actually gives me more gaming options, with lists available for Age of Sigmar, Warhammer 40,000 and Horus Heresy!
Right now I have one Bloodthirster built and ready for liquid green stuff, and a partially cleaned/built Skarbrand. A decent start I would say to my Khornate monstrous horde! However, waiting for me to pic up are twenty Bloodletters and Samus himself...

With the freshly released full rules for Darklands we've been trying to get
a grasp of these very detailed and cinematic rule set. Our latest game saw the Infernii demons of Dis facing off against the furry
Rhino-hordes from the North.
The game was decided in one brutal slamming and stomping assault of hellfirey death. It's incredible what kind of options these rules offer. As soon as we're more firm, I'll make sure to get an battle report on line.
An amazing photo from Sven and a new project for me, looks like it is a busy start to autumn!
