Forge World: Sevatar Pre-Order!

I believe this more than likely completes the Night Lords releases (for now anyway), and what a way to do so! First Captain Sevatar, Master of the Atramentar and all round nasty chap is now available for pre-order, fans of the Prince Of Crows get your wallets ready.

As you an see from the picture above, you also get a bare headed option, so magnets at the ready. As with the other members of the Character Series, Sevatar gets a scenic base complete with what I think will be a very useful dead space marine body - will be great as a bits purchase!

Sevatar is available for pre-order now from the Forge World website and will cost £31.00 with a despatch date of Friday 6th February.

Site News: Blogging Networks And Blog Re-name Issues

Hi guys, just a quick post to acknowledge the confusion issues of the blog name change. I am currently contacting Networks I was previously part of and informing them of the name/url changes. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and those who were following the 14th legion before, will be able to do so once again under the 'Send The Eighth!' banner.

Horus Heresy: Night Lords By DiStudios Dreadclaw Drop Pod W.i.p

Greetings all, it's time for a Night Lords update from me. At the pointing of writing, I am chilling to the sounds of KLF while applying the second coat of boltgun metal to the claw area. Now those who know me, know that I am big fan of the Dreadclaw Drop Pod by Forge World. They remind me of the mega Shadow planet killer from the sci-fi series Lexx (yes a guilty pleasure of mine from the mid 90's), so my weekly days off have been spent applying paint to my favourite carnivorous drop pod and here are the results so far - apologies for the lamp glare.

Forge World: Deredeo Dreadnought Pre-Order & Experimental Rules

After weeks of teasing, Forge World have finally opened up the Deredeo Dreadnought for pre-order. As expected, the Deredeo is at the most simplest level an up-gunned Mortis Dreadnought with Helical Targeting Array and Atomantic Shielding. It is more expensive than a standard Mortis at 185 pts but packs a more powerful twin-linked autocannon and twin-linked heavy bolter as standard, with options to buy a Aiolos Missile launcher. Despite what looks like a normal weapon set, the autocannons actually have a impressive strength 8; four shots; with the sunder special rules, while the missile launcher system is strength 6 AP3 with three shots. What sets this dreadnought apart however is the Independent fire rule on the missile system, which allows the dreadnought to fire the Ailos at a different target, ignoring obstacles to los in open terrain. Oh and by the way it also always targets vehicle side armour with this rule...

There is one issue that I have with this dreadnought, and that is currently it sits in the heavy support choice and like the Mortis, can't be taking in squadrons. However if the above rules are set into stone, I see it as being a very good anti-air/anti light to medium armour walker. As a model kit, it's pretty much a angled contemptor with a small nostalgic throw back to the Space Crusade Dreadnought. But like it's Contemptor predecessors, the body and weapons are separate purchases, with the body clocking in at £35.00, Aiolos Lancher: £12.00 and the Anvilus Pattern Autocannon £18.00.

The Deredeo Pattern Dreadnought is available for pre-order now, with a dispatch date of 30th of January. For more details, visit the Forge World website.

Site News: The 14th Legion Blog Is No More! Send the Eighth!

Greetings all, it is with a heavy heart that I announce the end of the 14th Legion Blog...and introduce it's revival in the form of 'Send The Eighth! After many years using the old title of the 14th Legion I felt it was time for a change, mainly due to the fact that I never got round to painting anything remotely to do with the 14 th Legion and also a few comments pointed out that the fact the lack of relevance. While the blog does cover miniatures from a wide array of manufacturers, I have decided that the blog should shift to my current and most consistant project; which is my Night Lords (The 8th Legion). So from today on wards, the blog has been renamed (allow with all associated channels) to 'Send The Eighth!' if I am to be honest I think it has a bit of a ring to it too!

I have notified Belloflostsouls and tabletopgamingnews, so hopefully the transition should go smoothly. If possible please update/check your bookmarks as I think the name change may alter old/existing links.

With thanks,

Horus Heresy: Night Lords By DiStudios Call In An Airstrike!

Greetings all, with 2015 in full swing and me settling into new routines, it is starting to look like end of week will be the most consistent hobby update day. Last week I semi hit a wall, whether this was long time coming or merely a result of getting back to normality is debatable, but still produced the same outcome - A stall on the infantry. However! This weekend has been fueled with lots of awesome movies and of course a cart load Monster Energy drink, This coupled with a few late night hobby sessions boosted my Night Lord's testosterone levels. I am still purposely relenting on starting Curze as an end of army reward, so instead it was time to move onto some vehicle elements of the army.

As it stands, my army is actually very light on the usual vehicles.I sometimes find myself at a loss not taking the standard things such as Land Raider, Rhinos and Predators; due to the Night Lords Right Of War; however it does make me experience new hobby things like Drop pods, fighters and gunships. With this in mind this week I started my Voss Pattern Lightning Strike Fighter and I have to say it is simply an amazing kit. So easy to clean and put together, a thoroughly enjoyable and much needed experience as the Fire Raptor was really starting to give me headaches this week(more on that later). Having just watched We Were Soldiers and the afore mentioned Apocalypse Now, I have a firm image in my head of a Drop Pod/Air Cavalry style Night Lords army. This is good as it means I have direction and everything else is merely icing on top, I am planning on getting a second one in the future, once I reduce the resin mountain a bit.

Ah the Fire Raptor, a Christmas present from almost two years and also the biggest source of grief currently. This week while making a more secure fitting for the flying stand, I noticed that the engines were not straight at all and of course this triggered my ocd. After multiple attempts to straighten it up with the hair dryer, I ended up breaking it and fixing in multiple times, but to no avail. I simply have no idea what I am going to do with it now. As a build it is solid, but the fact it is slightly askewd irritates me, perhaps I will finish it off or maybe a less fussy friend will take it off my hands, who knows, either way it leaves me yearning for something else to fill the missing Heavy Support slot. There were rumours of a new Space Marine flyer coming this year, so I will wait a little on it, I hope it is something other than the Raven Guard special aircraft, but we shall see. On the plus side, the base is really secure and still removable, which means I will be happier using it on the tables!

That wraps up this weeks hobby progress, next week I be shuffling between infantry, the Strike Fighter, watching American Sniper and somehow fitting in my birthday!

Forge World: Thallax Cohort With Phased Plasma Fusil & Irad Cleansers

With all the hype of a new Dreadnought, coupled with pictures of it (The Deredeo) on the new releases pamplet, I was half expecting a Space Marine release this week. However Forge World does not disappoint with today's reveal. The Thallax Cohort with Phased Plasma Fusil and Irad Cleansers I believe completes the ranged weapon load outs for the Thallax, much like last week's Darkfire Cannon did with the Castellax range. I am actually quite pleased with this, as it shows that in the 'quieter' periods of the release schedule, Forge World are actually making an effort to fill in the missing gaps of their Horus Heresy ranges. Of course time will tell, if they manage to finish off some of the options for the Legion Marines, but with Mechanicum at the least, they are on the right tracks.

Phased Plasma-Fusil
Irad Cleanser

Both weapon load outs are pre-orders, at £29.00 for three miniatures, with a dispatch date of the 23rd of January. To see them and all the other new releases, check out the Forge World Site.

Following the jigsaw teaser of Pollux last month, Forge World are starting off 2015 with yet more Imperial Fists! Today pre-orders have been announced for both the Templar Brethren and Phalanx Warder upgrade sets. The parts are very impressive and make for impressive looking squads, I especially like the Brethren Sergeant who is blatantly 'Casting Fist'...

£22.00

£22.00

These are available now; along with three new sets of shoulder pads; from Forge World with a listed dispatch date of 9th of January.

Horus Heresy: Night Lords By DiStudios 32mm vs 25mm Bases & Praetor

Belated Happy New Year everyone, I hope you all made the most of your extra day off and got some model making done! This post has been a long time coming ever since the announcement of GW's 32mm base release. Now originally I was not going to switch, having just started the Night Lords project and based thirty or so infantry on the 25mm bases, however I changed my mind after playing about with some old 30mm bases (from Heresy Miniatures). This experiment, naturally resulted in a total change over to the 32mm bases (once I got them). Below is a quick before and after shot of some of my Terror Squad, as you can see the size difference is significant, as is the amount of details you can get onto the base as a result.
*Please note I am well aware of the gaming ramifications and have had debates on this subject, but understand I am looking at this as a model maker and nothing else*
