Christmas Loot yay!

Another Christmas down and a nice bag of loot, surprisingly  this year there were no miniatures. This is mainly down to the reduction of projects I am working on and the relatively new release of 40K 6th Edition. But with my birthday next month tying in with a supposed Chaos Daemon release, this could mean a whole host of new models and painting content coming soon. But before that, I need to sift through my current loot. My other passion outside of the wargames circuit is mmo's and collectibles, I love collecting statues, busts and some toys of movie franchises such as Lord of The Rings, Star Wars and Marvel. I also have a fairly large collection (around 200) of anime figures. This year my girlfriend got me a whole load of Star Wars: the Old Republic busts, due to the fact I have been playing the mmo since summer and have steadily gotten more and more addicted to the game and associated merchandise.

So this Christmas, I got Darth Revan, Shae Vizla, Darth Nihilus, a Lego Fury Interceptor and a whole bunch of Old Republic books to read. Tomorrow I will start taking pictures for the new busts and statues galleries, which I think will be a nice thing to look through once complete. I know it is not wargamie at all, but I am geek of many colours and I think it is nice to share my other hobby interests with the community as opposed to large down times between posts, when out at work.

So I hope you all got a load of new toys this Christmas and I hope you enjoy the upcoming collectibles section of this blog.

It's Alive!

Big thanks to everyone who continues to read this blog, I know November was a dry month but things will be picking up in January '13. I just wanted to point out that I will be adding new non-miniature content in the future. I have always been a avid toy collector at heart, especially when it comes to statues, busts and figures, I use to run multiple blogs, dealing with each collection separately, but due to time constraints and in order to keep my sanity, I have finally decided to combine everything here on the 14th Legion in the future.

The majority of content will still be Miniatures and Wargaming, simply because there is so much you can share about it, but expect new galleries to pop up with busts and statues. For most of you who read the 14th Legion, this may not be a problem, perhaps you yourself collect statues and busts (which is great I look forward to hearing your opinions in the future!) but for those who don't, I am sure cool photographs will entice you to read and comment non the less :-)

Either ways it means much more posting on this blog, whether it be toys, photographs or hobby news and that is never a bad thing. The first gallery that will be going up this month will have a very Star Wars theme to it, so if you are a Star Wars fan, keep your eyes peeled over the run up to Christmas.

Nurgle: Great Unclean One #3

Managed to make some time this evening and continue working on the GUO, it is always nice to work on something consecutively when you are enthusiastic. The focal point of today's session was the intestines and right arm wound that creates a symbol of Nurgle, I went for a traditional pink look to the intestines, but washed down the entire process with a reddy brown wash, I think this worked well as to go from drab colours to a striking pink would look out of sorts - an issue that I have been struggling with for the entire project.

With the symbol of Nurgle, I decided to add subtle washes of blue and purple to give a swollen effect. I am happy with the outcome and look to use the same method on the hernia on it's back. I think it stands out nicely and still ties in with the rest of the colours used on this figure. An issue I need to address is the colour of both the horn and nails, since the model already has a lot of warm colours, I need to avoid using bleached bone. I think the only option I can take with this is grey with some washes...I will have to experiment.

I also cleaned and fitted both the tongue and sword arm, in preparation for painting and after a bit of hot water and some bending, both pieces now slot into place without any issue. I think all remaining pieces should be glued into place very soon, which will be great as I am really looking forward to seeing the model fully built and at a stage of being mostly painted.

Need to pop to the shop some time next week and pick up some Uhu...

Nurgle: Great Unclean One #2

Finally found the time to not only continue working on this miniature, but also report about it! I have managed to put in around two days worth of painting all with highs and lows. All the wound areas were re-painted in a more fitting rotting flesh colour, the original choice was far too pink for my liking and has been limited to the intestine areas only, it took a lot of time to get a decent coverage of the new rotting flesh colour, but I think it has been worth it. As a colour break, more red glaze has been added to areas of broken skin, giving it a more sore look, this should work well with the clear blood effect at the end of project. Ideally I will get to work on the intestines tomorrow, extra tentacle details and if time permits any horn/bone areas (spine included), I am purposefully leaving the head till last, so that I can give it maximum attention when the time comes. I am estimating two to four days solid painting before completion, of course getting a 'full' painting day is the hard part!

Rumours of a new Daemon reinforcements/codex have been surfacing on various forums and blogs, chief among these are descriptions of some sort of Nurgle battle fly (undoubtedly to fill the flier gap in the codex). With this in mind I am leaving Daemon Princes out of the painting queue until I know more, I hope the fly does turn out to be true, the concept of giant bugs harassing my opponents will be to cool to pass up.

So what do people think of the Daemon so far? I should probably try to pick up the pace a little so I can start the second one...

Hobby Meltdown - Who Gets the Chop Today?!

Have to be honest folks, finding my self suffering a little hobby burnout due to a lack of inspiration. The Chaos Space Marine release was a big disappointment for me in terms of miniatures and general over hype. Despite the book being visually stunning in terms of design and art direction, I find the actual content nothing more then a general re-hash of the last book crossed with Warhammer Fantasy (and we all see how well that sells at the moment...). I believe this has cemented the trend of no more legion cult armies and the rise of Chaos generic led by 10+ old miniatures - a new Abaddon would of been nice for inspiration don't you think? The book of today is more spikey marines than ever, regardless of what they say and I see the current codex attempt(s) as a child friendly version of what was the biggest evil in the galaxy, the corruption of the dark gods has been diluted down to pure emo daddy hate (with sprinklings of Jurassic Park). Joking aside, reinventing the wheel is as hard as they say, with Chaos being so varied (up to 3.5) it was always going to be hard to re-vitalise the army once Daemons were given their own book, however GW has actively made the choice (in my eyes) to kill off the validity of Mono-God armies/legions across all game sets, in order to sell more product (note - gone are the sacred numbers, the division of Chaos into three sub armies for Fantasy). There is no choice now but to focus on the humanised aspect of the 'long war' ie Chaos Space Marines, Cultists, Dark Mechanicus (via Daemon engines). Perhaps in the future this will yield more interesting results, however right now despite the allies matrix, Chaos Space Marines is just Jurassic Spikey Marines.

Site News: Mo Nurgle Mo problems

Apologies for the lack of updates this week, a combination of work and hobby related problems have left me frustver when ever something good happens, problems re-balance the scales. So what major problem am I whining about now I hear you cry?!: The tongue bit is missing.rated and tired eyed (all will make sense in a moment). I started working on the lovely Forge World Great Unclean One last week and hit off to a great start, the colours and enthusiasm were at an all time high.

Seems like such a small thing, but when you shell out over one hundred pounds for an item and proceed to lose a piece, it is enough (in this man's case) to drive yourself nuts. I actually turned the hobby den upside down in order to try and find it...this did not help as not only did I not find it, but I discovered other miniatures had gone missing, needless to say I thought I was going all kinds of Jack Nicholson crazy. Well I have put out messages to various friends and even a email to Forge World (I expect no sympathy from them but straws are straws even if short), fingers crossed I will have some form of resolution to the issue next week.

Now a brief note on the "New" Chaos...The more I hear about the book (and have seen from various shots), it seems like nothing more than an evolution of the previous codex:

Mono = Crap, take Poke-dragons and add liberal sprinklings of obliterators.

We will find out fully tomorrow but I am banking on the above being the end result of the "new" Chaos Space Marines.

User Comments - Duncan Wright

"I have to say, all these early pictures were pretty crappy. I think you might want to take a look at the new photos, cause I initially agreed until I saw the official pics on the site. In my opinion, they are an awesome new direction and you should definitely take another look."

Thanks Duncan for taking time to read this blog and respond, my apologies for having to 'publically post' a response, but the eternal war between Disqus and Blogger comments continue! I have the digital version of Whitedwarf magazine (which I actually like and have subscribed to!) and have had a close look at the new chaos range, and my standing point remains stronger than ever, you have however cited something very important in your statement and that is 'Direction'.While In some cases it cannot be disputed that the physical design and sculpt (or cut?) of certain figures such as the dragon and the Mauler Fiend are high (while others like the Maulers are simply crap on a stick), it is actually the concept/direction that does not sit well for me. For a lot of older gamers who played Chaos in the 'good ol days', these new designs do not fit into the vision of God centric Chaos created over the last 20-30 years, and this is completely Games Workshop's fault.

Chaos has always been about the four Gods and were always an all inclusive entity; Daemons, Mortals and Beasts of were all mixed into one; which made for some visually stunning and atmospheric armies. When GW split the Chaos books into Daemons and Chaos Space Marines, it also split the design ethics and diluted the creativity by taking away links to the four Gods (God specific Daemonic troops); instead of Noise Marines with daemonettes, you now have Noise marines with and a liberal sprinkling of Obliterators, and this is ultimately generic-ism. It started with lesser daemons and more undivided cults and now points towards Daemon Forge creations. While you do indeed have Cult troops, by taking them as the core of your army you automatically neuter yourself  due to lore based limitations and no God specific Daemons to augment your force (outside of the allies matrix). With the four Gods background primarily in the Daemons book, what do Chaos Marines become? merely spikey Marines.

As I said at the start while the new Chaos Dragon, Mauler Fiend and some of the new Chaos Marines are technically very fine models, they follow a trend of undivided additions that alienate Four Gods players, while it is possible for players to proxy/convert it still feels cheap to play something that is not part of your list - a reason why I can't play Nurgle Bloodcrsuhers or Slaanesh Berserkers. A big part of me feels that perhaps Chaos Marines should phase out God Cult troops completely (Khorne/Slaanesh/Nurgle/Tzeentch), as it will allow greater acceptance/freedom for the design team to implement generic/undivided entities.

Perhaps Cult troops truly belong in the Daemon lists as Elite units.

Follow up comment:

"Thanks for taking the time to respond. I can defend the models, and even the undivided part, but daemons and chaos marines should be part of one army".

And I think this is truly the crux of the argument, while there is nothing wrong with having a undivided army at all, removing the God specific Daemons from the Chaos Marines felt like a massive punishment for wanting to play mono-God. While most of the new models are nice in their own way, stylistically and thematically they they do not cater to Mono-God players.

Thanks again Duncan and please, please grab yourself a  Disqus account so everyone can see the excellent points you raise without me having to create a post for it hehe

Nurgle: Great Unclean One Day 1

An actual hobby post yay! The Forge World Great Unclean One is a wonderful model, it has been sitting on my shelf for around two years, it is a reject from my old Death Guard project and something I have always wanted to start painting. Today I decided to try (again) on making a start on the figure, my previous attempt had ended in failure when I was not happy with the colours and generally crappy brush technique I had applied at the time. In the last two years of painting again, I feel that I have (re) learnt enough techniques to try and paint high detail models like this again, and I hope that figure shows some evolution of technique once completed.

Blacklist: Idiot eBayer of the week

So after 11 years of buying and selling on eBay I got my first negative feedback, what a way to start you day! A buyer has accused me of stealing his money and not sending an item...only problem is it has a tracking number! I received one email from the buyer a while ago and I responded by providing his tracking number (even though it is already on his invoice). Apparently he has waited a month and still no package, instead of sending me a message to discuss where it is or even the concept of a refund, he leaves me a negative.

How do I discuss a refund when you don't even request one from me, am I meant to be psychic?

The best bit - I just checked the tracking, it states, item never collected and being returned. I strictly state to the buyer, to check his sorting office for the item and it looks like he could not even be bothered to do that...I mean how lazy is that? Your package in in the sorting office...you can't be bothered to pick it up...you can't be bothered to ask for a refund...and apparently that is all the seller's fault?

GENIUS

My concluding thought is that the buyer did initially want the item, then changed his/her mind and instead of picking up the item, decided to wait for it to be returned and avoid postage expense.I hate the fact that I can't leave an honest negative feedback for the person, so this is the next best thing. i would honestly recommend to all eBay traders, to add this buyer to the block list, the buyers name/ID is:

 connor19502009connor

I am fed up with how eBay takes no actions to protect it's smaller sellers, so from now on I will be doing my own black list or terrible buyers and sellers right here on my blog. All evidence will be presented and it will be up to you the readers to decide whether or not these individuals should be black listed from your sales. But for this week, congratulations connor you are the idiot eBayer of the week.

Nurgle: Daemonic Reinforcements

You can always see when I am 'fully dedicated' to a project, I tend to unload a bunch of cash on resin to supplement it. I already have some resin goodies in the form of the Nurgle daemon prince and huge Great Unclean One, but these were inherited from the old Deathguard project and are used as regular codex entries anyways, so what do I have in mind? Decimators, two of them and these are what I consider to be Daemon Engines.

Two of these bad boys should be arriving by the end of the week, I have opted for dual Butcher cannons on both to help pop transports and carve up infantry lines - especially once they benefit from a maxed out tally, 16 strength 8 shots with no armour save is going to be terrifying on the table. But all of this comes at a cost, being more expensive than a Land Raider, these two items take up valuable points in what is already a very elite army. I do have a full worked out list, and I will be sharing that (and my thoughts on it) soon.

Looking forward to un boxing these!

Rant: Chaos Undi-whelming...

Ok by now everyone has seen the photos of the Chaos goods from next month's White dwarf, if not here is the link: Chaos Stuff. Not going to post the photos as I think credit needs to be given to the guy who posted it first, now for the random bit, my thoughts. Like everyone else, I have been waiting for a long time for Chaos to get it's due and quite frankly I am so far unimpressed. In concept, the dragon sounded interesting, it had been hyped as being similar to the Tzeentch Firelord (below).

Wrath of Kings: Dancing Master

Trying not to fall back into bad habits can be very difficult when figures like this turn up. I have a tendency to get distracted by awesomely sculpted figures. So far the Wrath Of Kings miniature range published by Coolminiornot has not really hit the mark for me. They have very nice painted promo pieces (as to be expected) but the designs themselves don't really stand out to me, however today they released a figure that has caught my eye and wallet: The Dancing Master.

This figure is listed as a limited edition and currently the CMON store has 21 left in stock. I did decide to have another look at the figure range after making this purchase and visited the official Wrath Of Kings site, but still I don't see anything that makes the figure range pop out to me to collect more, perhaps this is something to do with what I perceive to be a current staleness in the Fantasy genre line?

Nurgle: Epidemius (Finecast Ver) Unboxing

Reinforcements and supplies have just arrived. I have been very keen to get my hands on the two bottles of Athonian Camoshade and do a little experimenting with shades on my Nurgle forces, the other part of my delivery, I was less excited about. Like most people I still have apprehensions concerning the Finecast casting procedure and ordering a figure which is not only expensive but cast by via infamous means feels like financial Russian roulette, which does not exactly inspire confidence. Previously I have been sent Terminators with half  melted shoulder pads, bubbles where faces should be other various melted abominations, so as you can imagine opening this £30.00 box of resin left me nervous to say the least.

Nurgle: Nurgling Scratching s

Finally had a chance to sit down and work out a colour scheme for my Nurgling swarms. I am starting to get 'trigger finger' as the sheer magnificence of the daemon plastic kits are trying to lead me away from Nurgle (namely Bloodcrushers and Seeker chariots, however I am managing to keep my focus soley on Nurgle, a mild relief for my wallet. I have to admit, that despite the fun I have had with this models, these figures are actually a bit on the annoying side to clean due to the amount of small details and subsequent mould lines, no breakages yet but some near misses with the craft knife.

I am very please with the colour scheme, it is still green to match the army but a different and more vibrant shade (actually it's rotting flesh, is that a green?). So the army will still look unified but show diversity of colour to stand out of the crowd and enough to keep my painting interesting and challenging. The Nurglings are packed with character and while they can be quick to paint, I could not help but pick out the wagging tongues, sores and wounds. I think with this painted in, the swarm base really stands out a lot more.

Nurgle: Unusual Growths

The forces of Nurgle threatened to take over my dinner table last weekend as I started work on the remaining boxes of Plaguebearers and Nurglings. In a bid to try and keep things a little more efficient I cleaned my two paint stations; which were covered in clippings and odd figures; and decided to designate one as 'painting' and the other as 'building' - the joys of simple logic! So let's have a look at what and the various stages of this project's growth.

Forgeworld: Elemental Of Fire

Dogs walked, time for some hobby goodness. Forge World have released another Warhammer monstrosity in the form of the Incarnate Elemental Of Fire, this figure stands at 6" tall and is sculpted by Steve Whitehead. Background aside, the figure has all the hallmarks for a very interesting Daemon Prince/Greater Daemon conversion, the wreathed in fire look would fit pretty well with a Tzeentch army, while the head sculpt would be fantastic as part of a Nurgle sculpt.

The figure is up now on the Forge World site with a shipping date of 28th September, I would expect people going to Gamesday will have early access to this figure at the Forge World stand. On the subject of Forge World, the release schedule seems to have 'altered'...start of the year rumours put forward the idea of a new Imperial Armour book release chronicling the Minotaurs vs Tzeentch/Necrons. With the recent announcement of the Horus Heresy being the next focus, I wonder if the Minotaurs project has been shelved completely?

Dark Vengeance - Farce or Working as Intended?

Well there is a lot of controversy surrounding last weekend's release of the Warhammer 40,000 Dark Vengeance box set. Bell of lost souls reported yesterday a delay of the general edition boxset, and the status of the Limited Edition is now - unavailable both via the GW website and most independent retailers. This news prompted me to check the status of my order with an independent retailer, I was under the impression that I made the 'cut' for the Limited Edition box set as I ordered over the weekend...

Nurgle: Rise Prince Of Pestilence! Wip

The Chaos Forges have been burning late recently hence the lack of blog posts, here is the second of my trio of Nurgle Daemon Princes (First Daemon Prince Here), I was originally tempted to build from the box and play, but my need to convert took over all rationale. I just want to put emphasis on the fact that there is still a huge amount of work to do on this figure, I am probably 80% through working on the bulking of the figure and no major detailing has been sculpted yet except some skin on the spore chimneys.

Nurgle: Burning The Midnight Nurgling..

Just gone 2:15am as I write and I have done about as much as I can today. Despite a good start on Saturday, random problems/jobs around the house sprang up throughout the weekend that completely threw my hobby schedule in the air, meaning I did not manage to finish my projected schedule. However the results of the weekend are still satisfactory. After a very shaky start, the new green I picked last week has actually turned out ok, It's a little 'old skool' as in it looks a little bright like the Nurgle stuff from the 80's but funnily enough it seems to fit the bill. There is not much left to do now before I start the basing apart from the banner, blood effects and small details. What this means is that for the rest of this week I should be working on Nurglings, followed by another box of Plaguebearers and finally the lovely Forge World Great Unclean One.

Nurgle: Late Night Update

Yet more progress on my reborn Nurgle project, the Daemon Prince Mamon is now complete and I intend to get some decent photos worked on this weekend if all goes well, It's also a bank holiday weekend I believe, so plenty of time for hobby stuffs. I am pleased with the final outcome of the Prince; in particular the free hand fly symbol on the loin cloth; but as per normal there are a few things that do annoy me such as the grains left over from the dry brushing etc. Rather than be discouraged I am using this as a learning curve for the next two large scale models on the list. One thought did occur to me, in games I would of course use daemonic flight for my Princes, however I dislike the idea of something so big and obese using wings...After reading the description for the Daemonic Flight gift, it does cite examples of flying or bounding leaps via arcane movement. While I don't think many of my opponents would contest 'gas/fart powered' Nurgle Princes, there will inevitably be a few waac that might contest it.

So I ask the question "Do I have to have wings on my Daemon Princes to represent Daemonic Flight? What defines Daemonic Flight and would you allow a gas powered/teleporting Daemon Prince?"

Nurgle: My How His Garden Grows!

Papa Nurgle's reach extends just a little further today, with a lot of painting and building going here. The Nurgle Daemon Prince is reaching the final stages of completion; I am just waiting on some resin to dry; but once this is complete, all that will remain is the base and rust effects. I have to be honest the colour is not as green as I would have liked, so I will be reviewing my paints to find a replacement colour. What this means is that the Plaguebearers will probably be next in-line for painting as opposed to the Great Unclean One (which is probably for the best as it means more rank and file complete). I have just put together some Nurglings (as you can see in the photo) and I have to say then are a very fun and simple kit to put together.

I am going at a very happy pace considering it is summer; normally I just stop model making altogether during warmer periods and wait for the cooler autumn months; but this years splash Daemon release has been too tempting to resist. I still have another box of Plaguebearers and Nurglings to add to the collection but after this I need to start thinking about what would be best to add to the growing force. I will be going for pure Nurgle (I am 14th legion after all!), but certain models are a little lack lustre ie Epidemius and the Beasts of nurgle. Two more Daemon princes (with Wings) are definitely on the agenda sooner rather than later, but somewhere down the road I do want to add some form of palanquin rider(s) and Beasts of Nurgle. Currently Plague Toads and a custom palanquin using the new Nurglings box set are foremost of my ideas...

A Painting Update?! The Sky Is Falling!!

A combination of a new edition adaption, work and mmorpg addiction has meant the last month or so has been very slim on the miniature/gaming side. Alas, the painting drought has been broken and something altogether nasty has spawned from the depths of the 14th Legion, with the recent release of new daemon kits and whisperings of both Fantasy and 40K Chaos this fall, it seemed only natural that I would once again hear Papa Nurgle's call. This is still a wip, which I started yesterday but from the looks of things I should see it finished by the end of the weekend (famous last words).

has it really been that long?...

It has been a very hectic few weeks, with some very time intensive projects on my plate, on the plus side its money for toys so I can't complain too much! however things seem to be hitting a good balance, so once again I can move forward with some of my projects. While it might seem that this log has been sleeping under a rock, I myself have been keeping very much up to date with wargaming current affairs and I will be sharing some of my thoughts on various rule sets/figure releases in the last couple of weeks. The blog and Minotaurs project are very much alive and readers can expect to see some wip shots and of course some more battle reports coming soon.

However...

The fact I am struggling to keep up with just the one project means a whole bunch have to be stopped. I feel that in the last year or so of coming back to warganing, I have spread myself too thin on the projects and sadly a whole bunch will have to go. In the future I will be getting rid of my Confrontation Drune army, ork battlewagon army, seven years worth of Khador miniatures and various large beasties such as the CMON dragon and Banebeasts Chimera. So keep your eyes peeled and on my eBay store weekly offerings.

To my regulars, I apologise for the lack of updates and to the new guys, thank you for taking the time to check out my post.

Site updates - Readers Comments

Hello fellow hobbyists, I would like to apologise for the "radio silence" last week. As regular readers might be aware, I was sharing my old Macbook with the missus after she managed to spill a mug of tea on her own laptop some two months ago, this issue has now been solved! I went ahead and got my self a brand new laptop for work (and a little gaming ^^), resulting in the need to transfer a lot data from the Mac to the new (Windows) laptop, this includes various videos I have been working and pictures I have taken for the blog. Having been a Mac user since 2008, I find coming back to Windows a little daunting, even small things like not having Chiclets keys on the keyboard have made working on this new laptop a little slower than I would have liked.

I have noticed an increase of comments on the blog while I have been away and have even received emails from fellow hobbyist around the world. Firstly I would like to say a BIG thank you to those of you who take the time to read, comment and email me hobby related stuff and I would like to say sorry for not responding to them last week. All comments on this blog have been well received and appreciated, so please keep commenting and sending in those hobby emails! In regards to the current questions I have been sent, I will be doing a small Q & A type Post tomorrow to address them. I think this will be very beneficial for posters who do not use Disqus as it means their comments will be featured on this blog, for those of you who are not aware, for some reason having Disqus on blogger negates the normal comments settings, so you can leave comments via blogger, but they do not sure up once posted. I am unaware of any fix thus far so will go the route of publishing those comments via a post. After all, if you have taken the time to write a comment, the least I can be done is make sure your comment is shared :-)

Thanks for reading and keep on commenting/emailing about the hobby!

Badab War: Back to business

This weekend just gone by was not only the Diamond Jubilee, but also my girlfriend's (aka Evi) birthday weekend. Before she went marauding off to the clothes stores with birthday money, she decided to dump me at the local Games Workshop (very considerate of her!), and while I did meander about a bit trying not to bother the staff with old war stories, I did find myself making a few purchases. My hobby shopping is almost exclusively online simply due to the discounts available, however since I was there anyway I parted with some money - I did manage to restrain fro buying an Empire army though! I grabbed copies of the audio books: Thousand Sons and Prospero Burns for some easy listening an more importantly I grabbed myself a Stormtalon gunship...

Battle Report: Waaagh Orkimedes vs Minotaurs

What was it about this isolated, barren place? What hidden powers lay locked in the vaults of this long abandoned post? Brother Librarian Lycurgon; now recovered; had rejoined his battle brothers on the planet's surface. During his recovery in the care of the Chapter Apothecaries he had dreamt of strange alien objects, inhuman beings, and lucid colours in the sky that bloomed like ripe flowers in his mind's eye. Recent skirmishes with Chaos forces so early into the campaign did nothing but worry him further, where there was Chaos, there was the warp. His concentration broke as memories of the first engagement resurfaced, the memory crisp and precise as if he was living it again, his armour was rent in dozens of places and his shield shattered as a huge Chaos dreadnought in the colours of the Sons of Horus, prepared to finish him. He snapped back into reality and considered the matter, ultimately the Chaos strike force had been vanquished by the fury of the Minotaurs, but Lycurgon knew that Chaos was an infection, just when you thought it had been defeated, it would re manifest and swarm back like a cancer, especially in places such as this, where he could feel the faint warp signatures in everything around him...even the air, this place had to be a conduit and the answer was within the complex itself, like flies to rotten fruit, all of them; Imperial, heretic and xenos alike were drawn to this place. Lycurgon was sure that he would see the ugly face of Chaos again before this investigation was through, but for now there were more immediate issues to hand, the Orks.

Veteran Sergeant Cordus of Tactical Squad 'Araios' approached and gave salute.

"Brother Librarian." It was a vented statement, hissed forth without any emotion. Lyurgon did not turn to face the Sergeant, but nodded in acknowledgement.

"Orks sighted north of complex, attack imminent, numbers unconfirmed. Tactical Squads Araios and Dorusas have taken position at the complex's primary gate. Terminator Squad Gerousias awaits yours instructions."

Yes, Lycurgon thought once more...like flies drawn to rotten fruit.
